This is the first complete English translation, long unavailable, to be published of the Alexiad of Anna Comnena, a work which has long been used as a source of information by historians of the Byzantine Empire and by writers of the First Crusade. The book gives a picture of wonderful mental and physical energy in the person of its hero, the Emperor Alexius, and helps us to realize the enormous difficulties which confronted a Byzantine Emperor at this period.

Hardback book in very good condition. Tape marks on the front and back inside end papers. Slight foxing to the edges. Comes with a good dust jacket, price clipped. shelf wear to edges and ends of spine. Damp stain on the bottom of the spine, with small closed tear to the bottom of the spine. Marks to the inside flaps, where tape was once stuck.

Our stock is selected by knowledgeable volunteers, catering for both general readers and specialists. We are happy to check our backroom stock for wanted items and also offer a request service. Our themed windows are usually changed every two weeks, with our December Christmas displays offering a diverse and unusual range of gift ideas.
