The Boys' Crusade: American G.I.s in Europe, chaos and fear in WW2

£3.99

Product description

Part memoir, part history, this book presents a series of episodes from the arrival of American troops in Britain through to the discovery of the concentration camps in early 1945. The experience of these young (often very young) soldiers coul;d sometimes be pleasant - he explains why the boys' were so popular with British women (better paid, better dressed, better washed) - though, especially after D-Day, it usually was deeply unpleasant.. The American Army was involved in 1944-45 in some of the most ferocious fighting of the war, for which it was totally unprepared militarily or psychologically. But after the discovery of the concentration camps, the American soldier no longer had any difficulty in hating the Germans and came to see the war as the Crusade that Eisenhower had believed it to be from the start.

Oxfam Bookshop St Albans

Oxfam is the UK's largest second hand bookseller, but it doesn't stop there. We sell a great range of donated music as well. Whether it's vintage LPs or the latest modern fiction you want, we're well worth a look! We also sell greetings cards for every occasion. And of course we have some great stock for sale on Oxfam's Online Shop, too. Call us to find out more.

Could you help us by collecting donations from donors homes? Our shop receives many offers of generous donations that we have to turn down as we do not have volunteers able to collect. We would ask you to collect in your own car, at your convenience and reimburse your petrol costs. It might be a couple of times a month and would make a really big difference to our ability to make money.
