Publisher: Hamish Hamilton, London, 1957 1st edition. Hardback with unclipped dustjacket, 531 pages, illustrated in b&w with endpapers decorated with map of London c 1600. Cover, in black cloth with silver titling to spine, is in good, clean condition with a little bumping to bottom front edge. Internally the book is in very good, bright, clean and tight condition with no inscriptions, marks, tears or creases. The unclipped dustjacket is in generally good and complete condition with a little fading and rubbing to spine, some creasing and rubbing to top edge and a small closed tear to top of spine. Overall a very sound and clean copy of this important historical biography with 8 full page b&w illustrations and attractive endpapers showing contemporary (1600 AD) map of London.
