Full title: The works of Robert Burns with a series of authentic pictorial illustrations, marginal glossary, numerous notes, and appendixes. Also the life of Burns by J.G. Lockhart; and essays on the genius, character, and writing of Burns, by Thomas Carlyle and Professor Wilson. Published by Blackie and Son Ltd 1890. Hardback book with 260 pages. No dustjacket. On the front board there is a pretty gilt illustration depicting a woman holding a wreath. On the spine there is a gilt illustration of a harp. The page block edge is also gilted. The book is in a good condition considering its age. There is considerable shelf wear and bumping on the front and rear boards as well as on the spine. There are marks and scratches on the rear board. The boards are also quite faded, especially the spine. Internally the book is somewhat tanned throughout but generally in a good condition commensurate with age. The spine is firm and tight. The illustrations are tanned with some significant foxing but the illustrations themselves are generally in a good condition. Internally there are no tears, creases, marks or inscriptions. A fascinating book looking into the life of a very famous poet.
