Two Renaissance Book Hunters - The Letters of Poggius Bracciolini to Nicholaus De Niccolis

£17.99

Product description

A 1991 reissue of the 1974 Columbia University Press edition of the letters of Florentine humanist Poggius (1380-1459) to his friend De Niccolis regarding the rediscovery of lost classical texts. Translated (from the Latin) with notes by Phyllis Walter Goodhart Gordon. Includes bibliography and index.

The letters capture vividly the excitement of the Renaissance rediscovery and repossession of major works by Plautus, Quintillian, Lucretius, Vitruvius, Petronius, Cicero and Tacitus together with a larger number of interesting texts by lesser known authors, both pagan and Christian.

In very good condition, glossy paperback cover has a few creases in the glossy cover attached to the card (looks like a flaw in the book's production process).
