A biography of William Cowper, poet and hymnodist, in which the author Gilbert Thomas aims to see him in relation to his time, and in particular surveys the dominating influence in Cowper's life, the Evangelical Revival. Bound in olive green cloth with very faded white lettering on the spine and some light general marks; corners and spine ends bumped; text block edges and rear end papers are browned. Inside pages lightly tanned. Former owner's name, with date May '52, written in ink on the front free end paper. Loose in the book is a letter from the author to Mr Wilfred L. Hannam, thanking him for a review of the book which was published in the Methodist Recorder in September 1935. A newspaper cutting of the review is also included.
