"You'd mek a parson swear" / Joy James (signed)

£12.99

Product description

Publication date: 2008. Condition: Very good. The cover is creased along the spine, and the front cover is creased near the spine and has a faint cup-ring (image shows a picture of the actual cover so the extent of the marking can be seen), but is generally in very good condition. Internally, the author has signed the title page. Internally, the book is clean, tight and unmarked. Content: "Prologue: Mam was a strong, harsh, loud voiced, no nonsense violent woman who took no prisoners. She was, she'd be the first to tell you, and in no uncertain terms, as tough as old boots, afraid of nothing and no-one. As you read this, you may think I have been hard on her but on the contrary, it's the exact opposite. I want this to be a testimony to two people who did the best they could with whatever means they had to keep us kids together.........In retrospect, considering the deprived times and but for mam's fiery temper, my parents didn't do too bad a job of rearing us in those appallingly bleak times. At least they managed to keep us six, later 7 kids together, somehow fashioning us into the people we ultimately became from the mean raw materials life had put at their disposal."
