Product description

National Giro: Modern Money Transfer (Unwin professional management library) from Glyn Davies

In placing National Giro in its historical and geographical perspective, this book provides an up-to-date account of a system which remains as yet a strange and foreign sounding intrusion into the British financial establishment. Giro, derived from a Greek word meaning ring or circle, is essentially a system for the rapid transmission and circulation of money claims to and from a single centre, a principle extending back, as the author shows, to the ancient civilisations of Mesopotamia and Egypt.

This book describes the forces which led to the setting up of National Giro, the Post Office's current account bank and the first public sector bank to be set up for over a hundred years. It also analyses the reasons for the delay in setting up the British variant of an institution which has proved its worth on the Continent for many years.

This book is signed by the author. (October 1973)
The dust jacket is a bit damaged but the book itself is very good.

Oxfam Shop Cardiff

Our shop is situated in the Heath area of Cardiff, we work out of the Retail premises on Whitchurch Road, where Oxfam has been for over 35 years. Our role online, as with all Oxfam shops is to raise money in order to overcome poverty and suffering around the world including here in Wales. We could not achieve that without precious volunteer support which we are extremely grateful for. We need more of this valuable support and ask,if you live in or around Cardiff, to get in touch on: oxfamshopf5302@oxfam.org.uk. If you are able to spare a morning or afternoon each week with us, that would be fantastic, we offer the opportunity to expand your skills in many areas, work for one of the biggest charitable organisations in the world and importantly, you would be directly helping the poor and needy around the globe.
