A Drowned Maiden's Hair: a Melodrama

£19.99

Product description

Candlewick Press, Cambridge, Massachusetts, 2006, first edition, hardcover with d/w, signed by the author, 8vo.

Maud Flynn is known at the orphanage for her impertinence, so when the charming Miss Hyacinth and her sister choose Maud to take home with them, the girl is as baffled as anyone. It seems the sisters need Maud to play a secret role in the high stakes and eerie 'family business'. As Maud is drawn deeper into the deception, she is torn between her need to please and her growing conscience — until a shocking betrayal makes clear just how heartless her so-called guardians are.

The book is from the library of the author Eva Ibbotson. Its dedication page shows a dedication "... for Eva Ibbotson who said this sounded like a bloody good story and I ought to write it down" and the book is inscribed by the author to Eva on the title page with bear sketch. It is also signed by the author to the title page and there is a further bear sketch on the dedication page. The book is in very good+ condition - pages are very clean. The d/w is in very good condition with just a 1.5cm closed tear to the bottom of the rear wrapper and creasing to the front and rear flaps.

A beautiful and unique copy!

Oxfam Books & Music Jesmond

We are a specialist shop nestled in the heart of Jesmond, a lovely residential area of Newcastle Upon Tyne. We opened in July 2010 and have on offer 5,000 books, 2,000 records, CDs and games as well as sheet music, cards and stationery within the shop. Our shop has high ceilings and a nice, bright and airy feel. We are gaining a very good reputation in the Rare and Collectable books and vinyl community, but also do a roaring trade in contemporary fiction and modern non-fiction. We also organise live music and book events and aim to be a hub of culture in this wonderfully tight-knit community.
