First published in 1970 by Wills & Hepworth, this copy meets the criteria to have been published in 1970/71, a possible First Edition.

Written by L Du Garde Peach, with illustrations by F Humphris.

For most Ladybird books, some investigation is required to accurately ascertain the true publication date. For this book the following evidence is:

- Matt illustrated board covers, after 1965.
- Closed-winged ladybird logo - 1961 onward
- Plain end papers
- Price 2'6/ 12 1/2p Net - February 1971 - May 1971
- Tally count (number of Ladybird titles), over 260 - 1969

No dust jacket. There is some rubbing wear on the extremities of the cover, with the beginnings of a split along the spine strip. There is an old price label stuck on the front right-hand corner of the cover. A former owner's name is written in pencil on the front end paper and title page, otherwise, internally clean and not annotated. The binding is sound and still tight.
Cover is fair to good, internally good to very good.
