Pinocchio

Product description

This famous Italian story, first published in English in 1892, has delighted many generations of children. This complete and unabridged translation is by E Harden.

When the old wood-carver, Geppetto, decides to make a wonderful puppet who can dance and turn somersaults, he has no idea of the trouble in store. For as the puppet takes shape, it gradually comes to life, learning to talk and play pranks, becoming a constant source of general exasperation and delight to some. In the original serialised story Pinocchio is hanged as a punishment for his innumerable faults. For a novel form however his publishers persuaded Collodi to provide a happy ending more suitable for children. He wrote extra chapters allowing Pinocchio to be rescued by a fairy and eventually to be transformed into a real boy to provide a son for the lonely old wood-carver.
