The Children's Treasure House Complete set of 12 Volumes

£90.00

Product description

Published by Educational Book Company and edited by Arthur Mee. Green cloth board covers. The spines are age darkened slightly but generally these volumes are in good condition. Inside pages on glossy paper. Still clean and tight but very slightly age-darkened.

Probably printed in the late 1920s. This encyclopedic set of 12 volumes is undated, but in his preface to the first volume, Arthur Mee explains that it has been twelve years since The Children's Encyclopedia "came into the world". (That work was first published as magazine part work 1908-1910, and as an eight-volume bound set in 1910.) This set is heralded as a Companion to that earlier work. It is aimed at slightly older children and was designed to "tell more fully here the story of those things that encyclopedias can only touch upon".

Volumes are arranged thematically with such titles as 'How and Why'; 'The Story Teller'; 'The Amazing Animal Kingdom' and 'Motherland and Empire'. All the knowledge a child of the British Empire needed between the World Wars.

An attractive encyclopedia that gives an insight into a world almost a century ago.
