Written in the late 19th century by Amy E Blanchard, a prolific author of moral tales for children, this is a collection of 20 short stories each about a different child. Many stories have a picture of the little maiden of the title drawn by Ida Waugh, Amy E Blanchard's constant collaborator.
Bound in red cloth with gilt lettering and an illustration on the front cover. The covers have light general wear and noticeable dark marks from handling; surface rubbing wear on corners and the bumped spine ends. End papers are lightly browned. The front end papers are split exposing webbing, but the block is soundly bound; foxing has affected the frontispiece tissue and the title page; inside pages have light general handling marks in the margins. The illustration plate for 'Millicent' is loose beteween pp 36 & 37. A gift dedication dated 1903, and a former owner's name with the date 1997, are written on the inside of the front free end paper.
