The take - a DI Joe Faraday Investigation

£6.99

Product description

DI Joe Faraday's Management Assistant, Vanessa Parry, is dead. Killed in a head-on car smash. Her funeral is a bitter end to another grim week in the front line of the ongoing war against Portsmouth's surging crime-wave.
And now the seemingly untouchable D/C Paul Winter, master of the scam, has been hurt in a way he could never have imagined: his wife has cancer. It's inoperable and she has barely three months to live. Paul Winter has only one instinct - to lash out. And lash out hard.
But there's precious little time for grief on a Portsmouth CID squad. A disgraced gynaecological surgeon is missing and his case of maimed women is a murder-suspect list from hell. And the serial Donald Duck flasher has just upped the ante by inflicting GBH on a woman walking her dog around Langstone Harbour. It all adds up to an impossible workload and that's without the suits and the politicians conspiring to make it even harder...
In its marrying of an intensely strong sense of place with believable and flawed characters for the reader to empathise with, THE TAKE is an exemplar of classic crime fiction. Hurley's love for his home town and uniquely close links with the local police force make for a crime series that reeks of authenticity. It gets to the core of the society that we have made for ourselves while never losing sight of the need for stories that pack a powerful emotional punch.

Oxfam Shop Ulverston

Ulverston is a traditional market town that attempts to retain a sense of the Dickensian times as typified by the festival run in November. We are a conventional Oxfam shop and sell anything and everything that will be of interest to someone. We have a good reputation as a second hand bookseller and are developing a reputable clothing offer. Our friendly staff are always ready and willing to assist and we are continually on the lookout for more potential recruits. We have a strong focus on Fair Trade and like to run events to spread Oxfam's message and raise extra funds.
