A Day with Beethoven

£9.99

Product description

May Byron wrote a series of fictional accounts of days in the lives of composers, poets and authors. Opinions differ as to whether they were purely her interpretations or based on research. This volume describes a day with Beethoven in the summer of 1815. Contains five colour plates including a frontispiece painting by N. M. Price. The book is undated, but appears to be a special edition by the publishers as the jacket has a cut-out framed with gilt and a gilt publisher's logo. The cut-out reveals a portrait print of the composer pasted onto the front cover. The picture has three small surface chip across the middle. The soft paper jacket has general surface marks and noticeable wear to corners and spine ends, with open tears and small chips; the front cut out is torn and creased on the right side. The book binding is covered with buff paper except for the light yellow spine. The end papers have a red edge design and the front free end paper has another pasted-on portrait of Beethoven. The reverse of this sheet has a black ink gift inscription dated January 1930. There are several slight page breaks exposing some webbing but the stitching is sound. The text block edges and end leaves have foxing spots, but spots on inside pages are generally very light; colour plates are not affected.
