Ancient heroic Legends : Frescoes from the Castle of Neuschwanstein

£14.99

Product description

The book recounts "The Legend of Parzival", "The Legend of Lohengrin", "The Legend of Tannhauser", and "The Legend of Walther von der Vogelweide", translated from the German by Ludwig Kellermayer, and illustrated with 30 color plates. It is understood that the book was published by Martin Herpich in the early 1930s. Bound in cloth of a burnt orange colour, with a tipped in plate, and lettering in gilt. The corners and faded spine ends are worn and bumped, and the covers have light general wear and handling marks. The front endpaper and first page bear several inscriptions in ink and others in coloured crayon. Some front leaves have been removed including the title and publisher's page. and the book starts with an illustration plate. There are several splits down page joins but the block is soundly bound. Foxing has affected the stiff glossy pages, but appears as grey spots. The dramatic fresco illustrations are particularly attractive and vividly coloured.
