Fathers and Sons

£19.99

Product description

Subtitled as: "A Novel". This book has been translated from the Russian original. The book has brown cloth-covered boards and spine with the book title and author's name imprinted on the front cover. The front cover also has an imprinted line border around the book's edges together with botanical symbols imprinted at the corners. The main words of the title have colour embedded in the letters - white for the word "Fathers" and green for the word "Sons". The spine has the book title and author's name imprinted. There is a little bumping to the corners but significant shelf wear especially at the spine. The hinges are in reasonable condition although some of the pages are "shifting" upwards especially at the rear of the book. The pages are roughly cut and show a lot of discolouration together with some foxing. The top edges of the pages have discoloured to a bright orange. The endpapers have a rough surface on one side, very reminiscent of paper for water colour painting. On the front fixed endpaper is a monogram ("AWH"?) in ink, presumably of a previous owner. This endpaper also has a shiny black sticker of a bookshop in Edgeware. The reverse side of the front free endpaper has an inscription of a previous donor, Margaret Tudor-Evans, dated 14/2/53. The title page is in English, although opposite this is the same page written in Russian Cyrillic script. The two pictures at the centre of the pages are different. The book has many coloured paintings of characters, all pasted down to clear pages. The book also has a silk bound book mark although it is frayed and only just extends beyond the bottom edge of the book. The dust jacket has disintegrated into two halves and is in poor condition. There is considerable damage to the edges of the jacket and the paper is very brown with marks where it has been made wet.
