I am the Captain, by Gilbert Hackforth-Jones

£9.99

About this item

Rear free end-paper has been cut out from book, very light foxing to page fore and bottom edges, light pink colouring to page top edge, light soiling to front free end-paper towards fore edge; very good condition otherwise internally.

Dust-jacket shows bumping to corners, edges and spine ends; chipped at top and bottom of spine and flap folds; rubbed at spine and flap folds; price-clipped; adhesive residue to front from label.

A further chapter in the life of Joe Garton, the captain of a liner on the New Zealand run. Coupled with all the daily worries of defective engines, tiresome passengers, suspected wrong-doers, is the memory of an act of disloyalty to a brother officer committed during the war. He tried to atone by taking numerous risks in submarines and emerged with a distinguished record. During this voyage his past and present become merged and his ability to deal with the unexpected is again put to the test.
