Leo Tolstoy: Collected Shorter Fiction Volume 1

£14.99 Out Of Stock

Product description

Written over a period of more than half a century, Tolstoy's enchanting short stories and novellas reflect every aspect of his developing art and outlook. Volume 1 of the collection is dominated by the characteristic experiences of his early life as soldier, land-owner, husband and father, the life which shaped 'Anna Karenina' and 'War and Peace' . It also includes several short fables which point to his later preoccupation with the religious life. This is a school library copy and has library stamps on both front and rear end papers and an unused borrowing record sheet pasted to the front free end paper. The book has maroon boards and gilt titles on a black spine panel, and appears "almost new". The jacket is also in fine condition with some slight creases to spine ends and some light dust-soiling marks on the white rear cover. Translasted from the Russian by Louise and Aylmer Maude and Nigel J. Cooper. Introduction by John Bayley.
