Small book with printed board covers, the edges are worn and rubbed and the corners are bumped. The boards are rubbed and grubby. The front board cover is a little loose at the hinge but is still attached along the length. There is an inscription inside the front cover in ink which appears to have a date with the last number missing, i.e. 187. There are some pencil marks against some of the many book titles inside the front cover and on the fep. There is another inscription, in pencil, on the back of the frontispiece. The title and subtitle is: Nicholas's Notes, and Sporting Prophecies, with some miscellaneous poems, serious and humorous.' These pieces are by 'The late W J Prowse'. In a brief biological note about Mr Prowse is states that he was born in 1836, went into journalism as an apprentice at The Aylesbury Times, and then went on to work at the Daily Telegraph. He suffered ill health and died in 1870. There is some slight foxing on the frontispiece but not through the rest of the book. Published by George Routledge & Sons with no publication date but believed to have been published around 1870.
