Savrola

£575.00

Product description

The first British publication in book form of a story written in 1897 and originally published in serial form in Macmillan's Magazine. It is the only fictional book Churchill published. This copy appears to be a first edition; there is no print history on the back of the title page. Endpapers are black with a W. H. Smith and Son's Subscription Library bookplate neatly glued inside the front cover. The original binding is of dark green cloth with gilt lettering. Although the covers show some signs of wear, the spine is not faded and the gilt still bright. The book is tightly bound with a little cracking at the hinges, and just very slightly cocked. There is a little foxing throughout the book but this is very slight on the middle section, and mainly noticeable on the early and final pages.

Oxfam Bookshop Reading

One of the largest bookshops in the Oxfam network, Reading Books has more than 5000 different titles in the shop at all times. We have unusually large sections in science fiction and fantasy, literature, history, travel, children's, business and the sciences. There is plenty of space for browsing and a couple of chairs for customers who wish to inspect books more closely. We also have a catalogue of about 1000 collectable books that are kept in the backroom, and these can be brought out for customers to view on request.
