The Dead Stay Young

About this item

"The Dead Stay Young is a sweeping, dramatic panorama of the years between the wars in Germany. Anna Seghers was a German socialist who was obliged to leave the country when Hitler came into power, and few writers have her first hand experience. The story begins with an act of violence, and the writer then traces the subsequent lives of the people involved. She shows us how poor and humble people became caught up in violence and corruption. It is a book which is forceful and shocking, but leaves us with a belief that there is a persistent desire for good in humanity. This book is in good condition. Original dust jacket is intact but has faded, browned and has some damage and ripping to edges, but is now protected in a clear plastic sleeve. Internally, pages are in very good condition, with very slight browning and foxing to edges. Small sticker from previous bookseller inside front cover. Overall, a very interesting historical account.
