FIRST EDITION: INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR: Published in 1950 by William Heinemann. Royal blue cloth cover with the title on the front and spine in pale blue. The corners and both ends of the spine are lightly bumped, otherwise the cover is in very good condition with no fading or sunning. Internally there is some discolouration to the pages but it is clean and tightly bound. The book is signed by the author using the name Ian Niall 1951 on the leaf before the title page, on the title page itself he has written a note,(same handwriting and ink colour) but signed it Mac. There is a pencil-written note below this inscription stating that his name was John McNeillie and that Ian Niall was a pseudonym.
