About this item
In this book, Armstrong tells of a Yorkshire, far removed in time, but still, the greatest of English counties. We hear of Ughtred, a monk of Rievaulx and Lazelle, a nun of the priory of Watton. They are thrown together by an accident of travel, yet discover a strong mutual attraction and sympathy.
This particular copy is in very good condition for its age. It does appear to be missing its dustjacket but the actual exterior itself is well-kept with only a few signs of bumping to its corners.
As for the interior, all pages are clean and free of any writing, highlighting and markings. However, all pages and endpapers have heavy signs of foxing.
Overall, Thomas Armstrong paints the high middle ages with the same colour and zest that he brings to his novels of modern life. In this strong and exciting novel, the gay, glittering, corrupt and frightening world of the 15th century becomes as real to us as it was to Ughtred and Lazelle.
