Ex library copy but in very good condition. There is one 'cancelled' stamp on the title page, an Oxfordshire County Library stamp on the text block (foot edge) and the dewey number is written in ink onto the copyright page and onto the spine at the base. Internally the book is bright, clean and tightly bound. It is decorated throughout with high quality maps and illustrations. The red boards only have minor signs of shelf wear to the edges and spine and the front panel is beautifully decorated with a black oval and a gilt outline of a ship. The dustjacket is complete and clean with a 1-1.5cm closed tear at the top of the spine. The original price remains on the front flap. Overall a very nice copy of this first edition companion book, ideal for any Hornblower fan.
