Leather bound in box with leather tag, 2008, Penguin Classics.
As new condition still in shrink wrap.
Luxury leather goods designer Bill Amberg has teamed up with Penguin Books to makeover a series of six favourite Penguin Classics including Brideshead Revisited, The Great Gatsby and Breakfast at Tiffany's.
Using specially worked leather, more often associated with hardbacks, the books combine a soft leather with a pliable binding suitable for paperbacks - the result of which is nothing but stylish and chic.
"Having spent my teenage years with a paperback in my jacket pocket, to be asked by Penguin to work on a new leather binding is a real privilege and an exciting challenge," says Amberg, who notes: "Reading still provides a constant fascination and source of inspiration for me. I have chosen to use vegetable tanned, buffalo calf from fallen animals, creating a leather that improves with every use, the grain and sheen brightening continually over time."
Enthralled by his own exquisite portrait, Dorian Gray exchanges his soul for eternal youth and beauty. Influenced by his friend Lord Henry Wotton, he is drawn into a corrupt double life, indulging his desires in secret while remaining a gentleman in the eyes of polite society. Only his portrait bears the traces of his decadence.
