The Return Of The Prodigal and Saul

£9.99

About this item

The Return Of The Prodigal and Saul is a book by Nobel Prize winning author André Gide. This is the most important volume in that it contains Gide’s finest early work and the germ of much of this protean author’s literary ideas. The pieces are arranged in chronological order, and added to them is Saul, a play written in 1899. This book is one of the volumes of the series “Standard Edition of the Works of André Gide.” This is the first translated edition of the book and was published in 1953.

The publisher of this book mentions that the title piece is the most universally admired, because it’s the most indisputably beautiful of all André’s writings. The book also contains, Saul, a study of a decayed will, the moral collapse of a king whose failure to govern his own outward kingdom is matched by his helplessness in controlling the inner domain of his instincts.

The book is in very good condition. The colour of the dust jacket is slightly worn out on the edges but is still in good condition. The pages of the book are tightly bound and there are very few stains or marks on it. There are spots on the top edge of the pages. There is an ink inscription on the first inside page, which has the owner’s name on it.

The book will be good for readers who seek dramatic and soulful work. It is an inspiring tale that will not disappoint.
