The Spiral Ascent - a trilogy

£12.99

Product description

"A semi-autobiographical trilogy, The Spiral Ascent, was published in the 1960s and 1970s after Upward had retired from teaching and moved to Sandown on the Isle of Wight. The trilogy deals with a poet's struggle to combine artistic creativity with political commitment, including in its historical sweep the fight against the British Union of Fascists in the 1930s, opposition to the leadership of the Communist Party in the 1940s and later involvement in the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament." Poor Upward, despite living to 105 and having the friendship and regard of the interwar poets, found writing difficult and publication still more so. Here are the three volumes of what is undoubtedly his major work - "No home but the struggle":"The rotten elements": &" In the thirties".

Quartet paperbacks all in good order with no marks and good binding. Volume one shows a little discolouration of the page edges.

A nice opportunity to obtain the whole set at a reasonable price
