Product description

An early undated edition of this classic school story, bound in blue cloth with gilt trim. The cover is noticeably aged mottled and the spine and part of the rear cover are sun faded. Two free front end papers have been cut out, there is a former owner's name in black ink on the reverse of the colour frontispiece, which still retains its tissue guard. Early leaves are tanned, other pages are tanned around the margins. Text block edges are browned and slightly dust soiled. The cover corners are bumped, as are the spine ends which also have some small splits and light fraying; closed tear to the surface cloth, approx. 15mm, to the upper left corner of the spine. The book frontispiece illustration is by Paul Hardy and the introduction is by John Telford.
