McGraw-Hill, New York, 1988 First edition First printing in this form. 362pp. SIGNED copy and with a personal letter to the person it was signed to. Anthology with a full length novel, 222pp, Watson's apology which tells the stories of a Victorian minister who murdered his wife, a popular widow, dangerous wishes, cricket, parents, and quiet people. There are 12 short stories totalling 135pp.
In good condition with a sunned spine and edges of covers. Pages browning due to age. Internally clean and tight. No folds, losses or tears.
The book is signed on the first page (half title there is no front end paper) 'To Patrick Home (I'm not sure of the surname) Best Wishes Beryl Bainbridge'. This is accompanied by a personal letter to Mr Home which makes reference to a letter received by Bainbridge and goes on to refer to her knowing a daughter of TE Lawrence's brother and a ring that had been owned by Lawrence which Bainbridge subsequently gave away. Further references are made to the Lawrence family. The letter is written on two sides of an A4 sheet.
