Its purpose was to celebrate the creation of the Festival by a Labour government to lift the spirits of a nation still battered and bruised from the Second World War. It was a great popular success despite the carping of some political critics. A handsome softback book with contributions by the great and the good of the cultural world of the 1970s - Roy Strong, Reyner Banham, Hugh Casson, John Piper, Arnold Wesker, Brian Aldiss, etc..
