Battle for the Roer Triangle - Operation Blackcock- January 1945

£29.99 Out Of Stock

Product description

Paperback, 2006, Creative Colour Bureau.

As new condition.

This book tells the story of Operation Blackcock, the code name for the British 21st Army Group's operation to clear the area of ground known as the Roer Triangle in January 1945. For months this salient had stuck out like a thorn in the allied side. This was Montgomery's successful renewal of the Allied campaign to breach the formidable German West Wall defences after the reverses of the German winter offensive. A little known bitter and vicious battle, involving two VC actions, fought in desperate winter conditions.

"After a quick review of the situation in January 1945 and of the events which caused the " Roermond triangle", both writers (a former British Army officer and a dutch local historian) compose a meticulously and well researched history of the fourteen days of battle between a three-division, reinforced British corps and a two-division weak german corps."
