About this item

The book is described as " A vivid portrait of post-war Bermondsey through the eyes of the Pre-Fab generation". The book tells the story of a group of teenage friends in the last year of their liberty before being called up for National Service in the 1950s. "Living in the close community of a Prefab village, their everyday adventures create a vivid portrait of post-War Bermondsey that many of us will recognise. To those living in the old terraces, the Prefab generation seemed imbued with a new confidence, facing life with a frankness and enviable freedom sadly missed today...." The book has original illustrations by the author.
Binding tight. Pages clean and bright. The author has written "With all best wishes Terry Scales" on the inside of the front cover. There is a slight crease in the top, outside corner of the front board. The board corners are bumped outwards and there is a scuff at the top outside edge of the back board.

Oxfam Bookshop Hertford

Oxfam is the UK's largest second hand bookseller, but it doesn't stop there. We sell a great range of donated music as well. Whether it's vintage LPs or the latest modern fiction you want, we're well worth a look! We also offer a range of greetings cards for birthday and other occasions. Call us to find out more.

Could you help us by collecting donations from donors homes? Our shop receives many offers of generous donations that we have to turn down as we do not have volunteers able to collect. We would ask you to collect in your own car, at your convenience and reimburse your petrol costs. It might be a couple of times a month and would make a really big difference to our ability to make money.
