Captive Christmas

£14.99

Product description

The battle for Hong Kong in December 1941 ended with the surrender of the Colony to the Japanese invaders. Despite its reinforcement by two Canadian battalions, Hong Kong had held out for barely eighteen days - a firth of the time expected. The fall of Hong Kong came in the centenary year of its occupation by the British, and the 99th anniversary of its formal cession by China to Britain.

Diaries, dispatches and official records have been consulted to trace the final struggle of the men and women who believed until the end that they would be saved by the Chinese Army moving south - if they only held out long enough.

This book is based on the radio series CAPTIVE CHRISTMAS broadcast by Radio-Television Hong Kong in December 1978.

Condition: Cover shows light wear with sticker on spine, page edges a little yellowed and dusty, light discolouration inside front and back covers, otherwise good condition, pages otherwise clean, binding strong.
