Holinshed's Chronicle

£14.99 Out Of Stock

Product description

This is the 1965 reprint of the Everyman's Library edition of Holinshed's Chronicle, as used in Shakespeare's plays, edited with an introduction by Prof. Allardyce Nicoll and Josephine Nicoll. From the dust-jacket blurb:

"Regarding the Chronicles as a Shakespearean source-book and not as a history, we present it to the modern reader in a manner which necessitates a departure from the original ordering of material. Here Shakespeare's plays are taken as the standard, and such passages from the chronicler are presented as have a bearing on those plays, with a few indications of the acts and scenes most coloured by Holinshead's material."

Very good condition hardback, with gilt titles to the spine. The top edge of the block has a decorative orange stain. The book bears a prize sticker to the front free endpaper from the Girl's Public Day School Trust. The original dust-jacket is in fair condition, with some foxing, shelf wear and a large tear to the spine.
