Jefferson Davis and the Confederate State by Frank E. Vandiver, Harmsworth Professor of American History, is a booklet published by Oxford at the Clarendon Press in 1964. The title page states that it was an inaugural lecture delivered before the University of Oxford on 26th February 1964.
The booklet consists of 22 pages within a folded thin card cover. The front contains the full title, the lecture details, the publisher and date. The back is blank. There is no spine, but a stapled edge, which is 'torn' through use or wear. The corners are bumped, particularly on the bottom right, and there is a small tear on the front bottom edge. The cover faces are covered in light foxing, although some stains may be from the price label and elsewhere.
The inside of the front cover has a dark stain, seemingly from another label. The title page is clean although it has a similar tear, to that of the cover, at the bottom and the corners share the bumps. All of the page faces are clean, although there is some mild foxing and a few dog ears. Page 18-19 has a deliberate 40mm dog ear at the bottom. There are no inscriptions or annotations. The booklet has no end sheets, fly leafs, frontispieces or illustrations
