Kijkatlas van Zuid-Holland (Dutch pictorial atlas)

Dutch language publication compiled by the well-known and well-travelled journalist Noortje de Roy van Zuydewijn with the help of photographer Jan Heuff. Each of the books which constitute this series is an illustrated / pictorial atlas in large size (A4 approx) which depicts a particular province of the Netherlands in words and photographs. Essentially it is the character of the area which the author wishes to convey and so there are only 2 maps to be found in each edition, a physical map of the Netherlands with the area in question framed in a rectangle and then a detailed map showing that area with all the places covered in the book numbered on it as a key to finding the relevant section in the book. Typically each volume focuses on about 30 places / localities (city / town / village / open landscape) and reflects them in photographs and text over about 165 pages. Every aspect is included: eg famous buildings, typical homes, farmhouses, churches, local public buildings, interiors, decor, art, sculpture, industry, food produce, craftsmanship, people at work, aerial views so that a complete kaleidoscope of lifestyle and heritage is compiled. A beautiful and informative book.
