Locomotives of the North Eastern Railway

£4.99

Product description

The North Eastern Railway's locomotive engineers had taxing traffic requirements to satisfy. At one end of the scale they had to cater for the heaviest mineral traffic carried by any of the pre-1923 railways; at the other, to provide capable motive power for a high-class express service which for many years included the fastest train in the country over the Darlington-York racing ground.

In this book, first published in 1954 (this edition 1974) to mark the formation of the North Eastern Railway from an amalgamation of the York and North Midland, York, Newcastle & Berwick and Leeds Northern Railways, Mr Nock revealed for the first time publicly some fascinating dunamometer car records of trials with NER passenger and freight locomotives.

There are some signs of shelf wear and rubbing to the cover of the book. Internally, the pages are clean, the binding is tight and it is in very good condition.
