Russian Embassies to the Georgian Kings (1589-1605) - Hakluyt Society

£14.99

Product description

In this 2 volume set the editors selected documents relating to the embassies of 1589-90 and 1604-5. Although the original writers seem to be frequently pre-occupied with questions of protocol, their observations give a clear picture both of the current Russian administrative and diplomatic practice and of the life and customs of the peoples of the Caucasus and Georgia. The text is further enlivened by dramas such as the murder of the Kakhian king Alexander II and the secret negotiations for the marriages of the son and daughter of the Tsar Boris Godunov.Texts translated by Anthony Mango.

Hardback books in good to very good condition. Ends of spines bumped. Some discolouration of top edges and spines and of top edges of text blocks. With dust jackets in good condition. Shelf wear to edges and ends of spines. Insides of spines discoloured.
