The book has blue cloth covered boards and spine with the book title, author's and publisher's names on the spine in gilt lettering. The book has some bumping to the corners, especially the lower corners and some shelf wear at the lower spine edge and the lower board edges. The hinges are in good condition. The front fixed endpaper has a handwritten inscription in ink dated 1953. All endpapers are showing signs of discolouration and there is foxing at the rear endpapers. The pages are well cut but have discoloured like the endpapers. There is also foxing on the page edges. Opposite the title page is a black and white photograph of the author in flying days during World War II. The book has a dust jacket which features a painting of a Stuka bomber and a Russian tank in combat during the war. The book title and the author's name are shown on both the front and spine of the dust jacket. The rear of the jacket shows a further black and white photograph of the author. The jacket is in one piece although there are scuffs and tears on the top and bottom edges. The price has not been clipped.
