The book of Stogumber, Monksilver, Nettlecombe & Elworthy

£80.00

Product description

Stogumber, nestling between the Quantocks, and Brendons, radiates a tranquil air, behind which lies a great community spirit. The road from Torre and Yarde through Woodford to Monksilver is situated on the eastern boundary of Exmoor National Park and meanders through a beautiful little valley. Just off this road at Woodford is Nettlecombe Court, a Tudor-style mansion in fine grounds with its church nearby, and not far from Monksilver is Combe Sydenham Hall, an Elizabethan mansion steeped in history. Beyond this, one arrives at Elworthy Barrows, 1200 feet above sea level, and a churchyard boasting one of the oldest yew trees in England.

The communities of Stogumber, Monksilver, Nettlecombe and Elworthy make up a very special corner of West Somerset and through this book the authors have endeavoured to portray the lives of the communities through the generations.
