The crusades

£35.00

Product description

The second edition of "The Crusades" has been extensively rewritten to take account of the latest research and new interpretations.;Crusading was a central theme in early medieval European history and this book covers all the expeditions which took place between the First Crusade in 1096 and the final retreat from Palestine in 1291.;Certain aspects are examined in detail: the Crusading dispensation; the influences that were brought to bear on the original idea of the Crusades throughout the Christian world; the effect the Crusades had on the history of the participating states.;It also covers the entanglement of the Crusades in European politics (eg between Pope and Emperor and between the Kings of France and England); its role in moulding relations between Byzantium and Europe; and its misuse for an expansionist Italian Catalan trade policy.;This account may be of interest to both undergraduates and the general reader.
This edition, previously the standard work on the subject, was extensively rewritten and covers all the expeditions which took place between the First Crusade in 1096 and the final retreat from Palestine in 1291.Particular emphasis has been placed on the internal history of the Crusader states. 354 pp including bibliography, notes and maps. The pictorial dust jacket shows shelf wear, some bumping, two shallow dents, evidence of an adhesive label on the back but it has not been price-clipped. There is light bumping to the spine, a tiny shallow dent on the front board and a faint pencil mark on the bottom cut edge. The binding is tight and the text very clean and unmarked.

One of the largest bookshops in the Oxfam network, Reading Books has more than 5000 different titles in the shop at all times. We have unusually large sections in science fiction and fantasy, literature, history, travel, children's, business and the sciences. There is plenty of space for browsing and a couple of chairs for customers who wish to inspect books more closely. We also have a catalogue of about 1000 collectable books that are kept in the backroom, and these can be brought out for customers to view on request.
