Product description

B. Benson ; Baldwin and Cradock, Weymouth ; London, 1879. Half-Leather. Book Condition: Very Good. 269 pages. Hardback with marbled boards and half leather binding in very good condition, with five raised bands. Bottom of spine missing (5 cm) and front board detached. Text block in very good plus condition, unmarked and just a little fading expected for a book of this age. Illustrated with black and white engraved frontispiece. There are also four plates (facing p. 88, 134, 137, 249). It appears that these may have been taken from other sources and bound into the volume as there is no mention of any illustration and the plates facing p.88 and 134 appear to have been cut out and pasted in onto blank sheets. A few annotations in black ink. Includes addenda and index, a list of errata and a list of subscribers. There are three leaves before the preface that are on different paper that may have been bound in by the previous owner and these pages are covered in copious notes in black ink. There is also a folding map of Dorsetshire by Langley laid in, as well as a review of this book taken from Warner's literary recollections. There is also a three page hand-written note in black ink laid in by the previous owner.
