This is a three volume hardback edition of The Last Days of Pompeii, a novel written by the baron Edward Bulwer-Lytton in 1834. It is a classic Victorian melodrama inspired by the painting The Last Day of Pompeii by the Russian painter Karl Briullov, which Bulwer-Lytton had seen in Milan. It culminates in the cataclysmic destruction of the city of Pompeii by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79. The first edition of this work in three volumes. Errata slip for all three volumes included in first.

Antique quarter leather bound & blue cloth boards with marbled inside covers, pages in good condition.

Head and foot of spine of each volume rubbed; corners and edges of boards worn; the binding is sound, no danger of disintegration.

The spines have gilt lined compartments but the label on volume 2 is absent. There is wear & staining to the boards.

Internally, remarkably clean for age. No notes or markings.
