Pitman Medical, London, 1962 (Vol 1), 1963 (Vol 2), hardbacks with dustwrapper, 8vo, pp xiii+264 (Vol 1), pp xii+310 (Vol 2), both volumes illustrated by black & white plates and line drawings within the text.
The first volume, which covers the period from 1740 to 1840, is not just another history of a hospital. rather it is the story of the exciting early life of one told in the entertaining style of the day against the medical, social and political history of that period.
In the second volume, which covers the period from 1840 to 1948, the story flows on against the background of the social changes of the nineteenth and the tragic events of the twentieth century.
Good+ condition . Both volumes have blue cloth boards with gilt lettering to the spine. The boards of both books have some minor marks including some fading at the head of their spines. There is minor bumping and rubbing to extremities. Pages are clean and the binding is sound.
Both dust jackets are in poorer condition than the books generally and show wear with tears and loss of paper (see photos). This is most evident on the dust jacket of volume 2 which is also sunned and somewhat grubby. Neither dust jacket is price clipped.
