These 2 volumes are large and sumptuous, heavily illustrated in colour. Each volume has a slipcase and dust jacket, and attractive patterned end papers.

Volume 1 :
Published 1974
Miniatures-Headpieces-Initial Letters.
The Protation and the Monasteries of Dionysiou, Koutloumousiou, Xeropotamou and Gregoriou
496 pages.
Includes an introduction and map, followed by 330 pages of colour illustrations. At the rear each illustration is described with notes, Followed by a bibliography, index and glossary.
Condition: In bright, crisp and clean very good condition. Slight fading to the spine of the slip case, slip case is also a little scuffed.

Volume 2 :
Published 1975
The Monasteries of Iveron, St. Panteleimon, Esphigmenou, and Chilandari
400 pages.
Includes a short introduction, followed by 260 pages of colour illustrations. At the rear each illustration is described with notes, Followed by a bibliography and index.
Condition: In bright, crisp and clean very good condition. One small (0.5cm) hole in dust jacket.

Mount Athos is a mountain and peninsula in northeastern Greece and an important centre of Eastern Orthodox monasticism. Mount Athos is home to 20 monasteries under the direct jurisdiction of the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople.
The Athonite monasteries feature a rich collection of well-preserved artifacts, rare books, ancient documents, and artworks of immense historical value, and Mount Athos has been listed as a World Heritage Site since 1988.
