Three centuries of children's books in Europe. In attempting to cover this vast field, Mrs Bettina Hurlimann has drawn on her own collection of children's books, assembled over twenty years, and has made a point of describing only those books with which she is herself familiar.
This, then, is a personal survey written in a lively rather than academic style, but one which represents an important contribution to the bibliography of children's books. The aspects of children's literature covered include nursery rhymes, fairy tales, nonsense, fantasy and reality, cowboys and Indians, photography, politics and picture-books.
The book is attractively illustrated with photographs and reproductions from old and contemporary children's books.
Overall, the book is in very good condition. There are signs of shelf wear to the dust jacket. There is light tanning to the page edges. Internally, the pages are clean and the binding is tight.
