Two Centuries of Overseas Trading

£9.99

Product description

Despite the recent dramatic growth in business history, one vital aspect of British industry and commerce in the 19th and 20th centuries has been largely neglected: that of the overseas marketing of British goods. The story of Inchcape helps to fill this gap.

Based primarily on unpublished material within the company's own archives, this study considers a group of pioneering merchants and traders who ventured to the most far flung corners of the globe. Mainly Scotsmen disenchanted with the lack of commercial opportunities in their native land, they set up in business in such diverse places as India, Ceylon, China, Japan, Singapore, Sarawak, Thailand, the Persian Gulf, Australia and East Africa.

Very good condition - DJ present with minimal signs of wear both internally and externally. Pages lightly tanned throughout.

An intriguing book for all interested in business history.
