Venn and Victorian Bishops Abroad

£19.99

Product description

SPCK, London, 1978, paperback, 8vo, pp212.
This book is a study of the missionary policies of Henry Venn and their repercussions upon the Anglican episcopate of the colonial period 1841-1872. Henry Venn was chief secretary of the Church Missionary Society from 1841-1872 and was one of those Victorians who consciously prepared for the 20th century. Previously neglected by ecclesiastical historians, Venn was one of the chief architects of the Victorian missionary movement which changed the very insular Church of England into the world-wide Anglican Communion. This book provides a thorough study of Henry Venn, his work and his relationship with the Anglican hierarchy, which was, at the time of writing, long overdue.
Very good condition. Cover is clean with just very slight creasing to spine. Page edges are slightly grubby but pages are bright and unmarked. Signed dedication by author.

Oxfam Books & Music Jesmond

We are a specialist shop nestled in the heart of Jesmond, a lovely residential area of Newcastle Upon Tyne. We opened in July 2010 and have on offer 5,000 books, 2,000 records, CDs and games as well as sheet music, cards and stationery within the shop. Our shop has high ceilings and a nice, bright and airy feel. We are gaining a very good reputation in the Rare and Collectable books and vinyl community, but also do a roaring trade in contemporary fiction and modern non-fiction. We also organise live music and book events and aim to be a hub of culture in this wonderfully tight-knit community.
