Product description

"A spectacular first hand account of young men of 19 & 20 as they risked everything for the future.

One often hears the phrase "So much owed by so many to so few", within those few are the aircrew of Bomber Copommand 1939 to 1945. These still unsung heroes gave their all for the freedom we take for granted today.

This first hand account by a young teenager from PLYMOUTH tells how he enlisted as an air gunner, missed training and the methods that crews were "Picked", each Lancaster had two air gunners, rear and mid upper turret, the story of the crew of one particular Lancaster Bomber from an air gunners perspective is told in plain and simmple terms.Jim "Tich" Davis was a Rear Gunner his side kick Ray "Nobby" Gillies was Mid Upper Gunner. Their story with the rest of the Lancaster Bomber crew from 1944 to 1945 is told here.

The book continues to Modern times when the author after many years of concerted work finally achieves his ambition of a memorial dedicated to those few.

Currently Jim Davis is resident in a home for the Elderly in Plymouth. Nobby unfortunately "bailed out" on 7th June 2007. Like all air Gunners and all aircrew of Bomber Command their Gallantry, dedication and heroism is not recognised officially today."

This rare book is in very good condition with clean pages throughout and securely bound. There is an inscription and signature by the author.Printed in 1995.
